About the Role

Who We Are:

Calico (Calico Life Sciences LLC) is an Alphabet-founded research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to increase our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science, and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline, together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs.

Position Description:

Calico is seeking a highly motivated scientist to join and lead discovery research projects in the immune aging group. Specifically, we are interested in applicants with a long-term interest in understanding the aging mechanisms of immune cells, with a particular emphasis on the dysregulation of inter-organelle communication, ion signaling, and cytoskeleton reorganization. We seek expertise in applying cutting-edge biochemical, molecular, and cell biological techniques, including advanced imaging and "omics" technologies, to unlock the complexities of immune cell physiology. Join our collaborative, cross-functional environment at the forefront of aging research, work alongside world-class technology labs, and lead ambitious research projects that could transform our understanding of aging.

Position Requirements:

  • PhD or equivalent degrees in immunology, cell biology, or related fields with 0-5 years of postdoctoral and industry experience
  • Creative and critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong technical skills at the bench
  • Must be willing to work onsite five days a week

Nice to have:

  • Demonstrate technical expertise in the following areas: multi-color flow cytometry, live cell imaging, immune cell line, and primary immune cell culture
  • Demonstrate expertise in immunology and/or cell biology as evidenced with strong publications and/or patents
  • Direct experience with T cell signaling
  • Proficient computational skills, including analysis of complex ‘omics data sets, complex image analysis, or mathematical modeling

The estimated base salary range for this role is $127,000 - $155,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
