Staff Level Engineer – Frontend, CMS & Site Analytics (Hybrid in South San Francisco) 

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Staff Level Engineer who specializes in frontend development, content management systems (CMS), and site analytics. This individual will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and optimizing web applications that deliver engaging and data-driven user experiences. As a staff engineer, you’ll partner cross-functionally with engineering, marketing, and design teams to develop robust solutions that connect content, analytics, and creative frontend implementations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Frontend Development: Architect, develop, and maintain sophisticated frontend applications using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frameworks such as React and Angular
  • CMS Strategy & Integration: Own technical strategy and implementation for CMS-driven sites, working with platforms like ContentStack, Salesforce CMS, and custom solutions. Guide the integration of dynamic content and ensure seamless editorial workflows.
  • Site Analytics & Tracking: Collaborate with marketing and data teams to implement, optimize, and maintain analytics and tracking across all web properties, ensuring actionable insights and KPI visibility.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with designers, engineers, and marketers to conceptualize and launch high-impact features. Facilitate knowledge sharing, code reviews, and mentoring across the team.
  • Technical Leadership: Set best practices for frontend architecture, CMS use, code quality, and documentation. Lead by example in problem-solving and troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Third-Party & Backend Integrations: Work on integrating third-party APIs and backend systems, ensuring reliable data exchange and secure, scalable solutions.
  • Performance & Security: Ensure sites are performant, accessible, and secure through code audits, optimization, and adherence to industry standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive Experience (7+ years): Demonstrated history of delivering frontend solutions for content-rich websites, ideally in e-commerce, media, or high-traffic environments.
  • CMS Expertise: Deep knowledge of CMS platforms (e.g., ContentStack, Salesforce CMS) and experience developing for editorial and marketing-driven sites.
  • Analytics Proficiency: Strong track record implementing and managing site analytics, including collaborating with marketing to deliver actionable reporting.
  • Modern Frontend Skills: Proficient in JavaScript (ES6+), React, HTML5, CSS3, and pre-processors like SCSS/LESS. Experience with Angular and Django is a plus.
  • UI/UX & Graphic Design: Experience creating wireframes, mockups, and collaborating on user experience, leveraging tools like Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Full Stack Awareness: Familiarity with backend technologies (PHP, mySQL) and understanding of end-to-end web delivery.
  • Version Control & Dev Tools: Skilled in GIT, SVN, XML, JSON, AJAX, Bash, SSH, and related dev workflows.
  • Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across the stack.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating with e-commerce platforms and third-party APIs.
  • Experience in highly collaborative environments, including mentoring and code review.
  • Demonstrated history of adapting to new tools and frameworks quickly.
  • Background in creative or graphic design for digital and print is highly desirable.

The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensation may be different in other locations.
